Autodesk Fusion for CNC Class

Class design and delivery for a local makerspace.

NextFab is transitioning from legacy software platforms to Autodesk Fusion for 3D modeling. I created a class to teach the fundamentals, designing a Mid-Century-Modern-inspired sideboard for the students to copy. The launch of the class was featured on a popular instagram account and sold out in a day.

I designed the furniture to be functional, interesting-looking, and to teach useful fundamentals of Fusion modeling.

The students spend the first 5 weeks learning how to model the furniture in Fusion and how to define toolpaths for the CNC machine to follow, and then their final week is an individual session where I take them into the wood shop to show them how to operate the CNC machine and other basic workshop skills such as sanding and routing.

Fusion is a challenging application to learn, and I’m consciously iterating on the class to find better ways to explain things and help the core concepts to click.
